Veteran & Military Service Organizations
VFW Post 805 — Sgt. Charles A. Fricke
Serving O’Fallon-area veterans since 1921 — canteen and hall rentals, a Veterans’ Service Officer for benefits help, an Honor Guard, and an active Auxiliary for family members.
American Legion Post 137
O’Fallon’s American Legion post — membership, community events, and veteran camaraderie.
American Legion Stookey Post 1255
Belleville-area American Legion post supporting local veterans and their families.
Veterans of Foreign Wars — Belleville
VFW post serving Belleville-area combat veterans.
Catholic War Veterans — Butz-Jobe Post 370
A faith-based veterans organization dedicated to helping local and regional veterans, with a banquet hall and community events. Membership is open to veterans and non-veterans alike.
DAV Chapter 24 — “Forget Me Not”
Disabled American Veterans chapter offering free, professional help getting veterans and their families the benefits they’ve earned, plus a Service Officer available by appointment.
The Flagman’s Mission Continues
Honors fallen military members, veterans, police officers, and firefighters by displaying American flags at funerals, visitations, and patriotic events — maintains a collection of roughly 3,000 flags and trains volunteers on flag etiquette and ceremony.
Flags of Valor St. Louis
Presents “America’s Heartland Remembers,” the flag memorial on Art Hill in Forest Park — this year’s event (Sept 5–13, 2026) marks 25 years since 9/11 with over 7,600 flags honoring fallen service members and first responders. Proceeds fund five regional military and first-responder charities, including The Flagman’s Mission Continues above.
Veterans Benefits & Support Services
Metro East Vet Center
A U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs center offering confidential, no-cost counseling for veterans, service members, and their families — individual and group therapy, PTSD and military sexual trauma support, family and grief counseling, and referrals to VA benefits, regardless of discharge status or VA enrollment.
Veterans Assistance Commission of St. Clair County
The county’s veteran service office — emergency financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utilities, and food; help filing VA compensation and pension claims; property tax exemption assistance; and employment referrals.
Illinois Joining Forces
A statewide public-private network connecting veterans, service members, and families to the right resources through one Care Coordination Center, instead of contacting agencies one at a time.
Songs4Soldiers
A 100%-volunteer, 100%-donations-to-veterans nonprofit that pays directly for combat veterans’ and their families’ everyday needs — bills, home repairs, emergency assistance — plus a holiday “Secret Santa” program and an annual benefit concert in Columbia.
Vet Tix
A national nonprofit providing free tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other entertainment to active-duty military, veterans, and Gold Star (KIA) family members — a free night out for the family, no cost to attend.
Police & Firefighter Support Organizations
Brett’s First Responders
Financial support for families of first responders killed off-duty, for first-responder families facing hardship from illness or injury, and grants for first-responder cadet training programs — founded in memory of Swansea firefighter Brett Korves.
The BackStoppers, Inc.
Provides financial assistance to the families of police officers, firefighters, and other public safety officers killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty — serving the entire St. Louis metro area, including Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair Counties here in the Metro East.
Illinois Chapter, Concerns of Police Survivors (ILCOPS)
Rebuilds the lives of families and co-workers affected by a line-of-duty police death — emotional support, financial assistance, and peer programs, available 24/7 statewide.
Safe Call Now
A confidential, 24/7 crisis and mental health referral line staffed by current and former first responders — for police, fire, EMS, and their families facing PTSD, addiction, or any mental health challenge.
First Responders Children’s Foundation
Scholarships, financial assistance, bereavement support, and counseling for the children of police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel — including families facing a line-of-duty death or injury.
National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
Honors America’s fallen firefighters and supports their families and departments nationwide, with a survivor-benefits resource hub specific to Illinois departments.
St. Clair County FOP Lodge 50
The Fraternal Order of Police lodge for St. Clair County law enforcement — membership, camaraderie, and advocacy for local officers, right here in the Metro East.
Belleville Professional Firefighters — IAFF Local 53
The union representing Belleville’s professional firefighters — membership, benevolent support, and camaraderie for Metro East firefighters.

Also known as The Joseph Center. Provides emergency and transitional housing and support services for women and children in crisis in the East St. Louis area.
